2024.08.29
In July, the Fast Retailing Foundation held a send-off party for nine Vietnamese high school students, the second group to receive FR Foundation scholarships to study bachelor’s programs at universities in Japan.
The farewell event, which took place in Ho Chi Minh City, was attended by the scholarship recipients, their families, teachers from the students' high schools, representatives from the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh, officials from the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (HCMC DoET), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
■Remarks by Masuo Ono, Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City
“I believe that this project, which provides scholarships to cover tuition and living expenses for students studying in Japan, is extremely important to develop talented people who have a deep understanding of Japan and will one day be at the forefront of Japan-Vietnam relations. To those receiving scholarships, spending this pivotal period of your lives studying abroad in Japan will be a very valuable opportunity not only for learning, but also for experiencing cultures, society, and people that you have never encountered before, broadening your insight, and cultivating skills that will be useful throughout your life.”
■Comment from Trần Huỳnh Cẩm Châu, a scholarship recipient who will attend Kyoto University from Fall 2024
“In the future, I aspire to become an impactful entrepreneur and activist, dedicated to combating educational inequality and social injustice. Additionally, I am committed to establishing educational projects and community-based programs that can elevate people’s lives. It is both exciting and daunting to think of all the inevitable ups and downs in the journey ahead. However, I know I am far from alone. I have my friends, family, and the Fast Retailing Scholarship Community.”
■Comment from Hoàng Hải Long, a scholarship recipient who will attend Keio University from Fall 2024
“I grow up in Thanh Hoa province gave me an opportunity to witness the hard laboring lives of Vietnamese farmers right from my childhood. For Vietnam - a country with a long-standing culture of manufacturing rice crops, economic policies in Agriculture in general will play an important role to level up Vietnam on the International Stage. I orientated myself to pursue Economics to become an Agri-economic policymaker. And Japan - an Asian country with developed Agriculture - is a living testimony for applying effective economic policies to the national agricultural area. Therefore, Japan is the ideal destination for me to learn and develop.”
■Comment from Dương Phan Long, a scholarship recipient who will attend Kyushu University from Fall 2024
“With a passion for computer science, my future goal is to contribute significantly to this field. Moreover, being exposed to the educational systems of both Japan and Vietnam will provide me with a comprehensive perspective on computer science in both countries, pushing me to constantly innovate and explore, creating positive values for the community and society. The immense support and encouragement from the fund have been a great motivation for me to improve my skills, knowledge, and pursue my dreams.”
■Comment from Noriaki Koyama, Senior Secretary-General of the Fast Retailing Foundation
“The nine students selected as the second group of scholarship recipients are all extremely talented and will go to study in Japan with clear aspirations. The Foundation hopes to provide ongoing support that will allow them to make a significant contribution to the future development of both countries even after completing their studies in Japan.”
